Background:
- On 1 and 2 October, Russian forces deliberately attacked Kyiv's Pivdennyi (South) Bridge with jet-powered drones. Russian UAVs struck the bridge at least five times over the course of about 36 hours.
- A drone exploded near a bridge pier while a metro train was passing over the bridge during one of the attacks on 1 October.
- All traffic on the Pivdennyi Bridge was suspended following the strikes, including both road traffic and metro services.
- The city authorities introduced new traffic rules for bridges across the Dnipro on 2 October. In particular, traffic from the right bank to the left bank on the Pivnichnyi Bridge has been significantly restricted while air-raid warnings are in effect.
