Ukraine loses MiG-29 fighter jet and pilot in combat

Ukraine has lost a pilot and a MiG-29 fighter jet in combat.

Quote from the Air Force: "Another Ukrainian defender was killed in action on 1 October 2026. Flying a MiG-29 fighter jet, he was carrying out missile and bomb strikes against the Russian occupiers on a section of the front. During a combat mission, the aircraft was hit by an enemy missile; the pilot ejected but, sadly, did not survive..."

Details: The deceased pilot was Marat Mambetov, a captain and flight commander of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade (the Ghost of Kyiv).
